IBM Network Station Flash Cards
Compatibility Standard Flash Cards
|
Release 3.0 of IBM Network Station Manager provides Flash Memory Card Support. The new flash memory card support enables the use of a PC flash memory card to boot the IBM Network Station.
IBM Network Stations have no disk storage devices so all software required to make it operational must be loaded from a server. In environments where there is no local server, transferring megabytes of code over a network can take several minutes. In order to reduce the time needed to boot in these environments, the Network Station operating system and applications can be stored on a flash memory card. |
Cards can be supplied in 2 versions, programmed or un-programmed, in sizes from 8 to 40Meg. In the unprogrammed version the user is free to add whatever software he choses. The programmed version have IBM Boot Software which enables booting directly from the Network Station rather than from the server, providing very fast access. Pre-Programmed card start at 28MB due to the size of the IBM Boot programme.
