NPort Server
The NPort Server is the highly distributed multi-serial communication solution for TCP/IP network. It includes one or more stand-alone NPort Servers and NPort software driver. Each NPort Server provides 8 or 16 serial ports and one LAN port which internally communicates with host computers running NPort software driver through standard LAN interface.
NPort software driver allows host computers to directly access or control serial ports on NPort Server using standard RS-232 utilities or applications. Besides, it also allows many host computers to share serial ports on NPort Server located far away from host computers. Each host can have 256 ports at most under Windows NT platform.
Due to port sharing and high-distribution features, the NPort Server is ideal for high-availability control system, SCADA, distributed monitoring system, office/factory automation, EOS/POS system and other multiple serial I/O applications. Terminals, modems, plotters, card readers, and other asynchronous serial peripherals are all supported.
Hardware Features
The NPort Server provides a new architecture for multi-serial communication solution. In this system, no board is needed to be installed in the host computers but standard LAN interface card. By this, no bus slot of computer will be occupied and you wont worry about resource conflict problem such as IRQ, I/O address. Besides, you can add, move and re-configure ports without lifting the lid off any computer.
With hot-swap feature, maintenance, if needed, will be taken anytime without shutting down your host system. Due to the adoption of standard network architecture, NPort Server could be located far away from host computers and no more wiring nightmare; In other words, host computers can control the serial ports of NPort Server located at remote site through Internet/Intranet network.
Software Features
NPort software not only meets all requirements of multi-serial communication applications, but also it allows many host computers or applications to share NPort Servers or ports; In addition, NPort Server supports security mechanism to avoid the unauthorized applications to access the secured ports. It is best suited for critical high-availability applications.
NPort server has a familiar Windows graphical user interface that makes configuring and managing COM ports very simple. It lets you view all the NPort Server on the network. Besides, it provides a valuable tool for monitoring the status of activity on the NPort Server. This includes viewing activity on ports, viewing port configuration, settings and status.
